Complete Exterior Renovation

This project’s needs were straightforward.  The home, built in the 1960’s, had high energy costs due air infiltration through the windows, inadequate insulation in the attic, varying levels of wood siding deterioration, gutters that were too small & not staying attached & old shingles.  We also had to address the overgrown trees that were adding to the deterioration of the exterior.   The homeowners were painting every 2 years & the maintenance and energy costs were adding up.

The following improvements were made:

  1. Replaced the original wood windows with Lincoln aluminum clad double hung windows with Low-E / Argon insulated glass.

  2. Installed James Hardi Fibercement lap siding to replace the original T1-11 wood siding

  3. Replaced all deteriorated trim with kiln-dried cedar.  Click on this link to learn more about why cedar is the only natural, exterior material to use - http://www.wrcla.org/

  4. Replaced the 3-tab shingles with dimensional, 30 year shingles

  5. Installed 6” continuous gutters with 3” x 4” downspouts.  I also added gutter covers to eliminate the dangerous & time consuming task of gutter cleaning.

  6. Repaired the screen porch area

  7. Removed overgrown trees that added to the exterior deterioration

  8. Added 6” of blown cellulose insulation to the attic.

  9. Painted entire exterior
